Abstract

NEGREIROS, Fauston; SANTOS, Isabele Linhares; OLIVEIRA, Maiky de Araujo  and  LINHARES, Thaís de Sousa. The school psychologist facing medicalization: study with Brazilian university students. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, pp. 1-10. ISSN 2175-2591.

The research aimed to investigate the role of the school psychologist in the face of medicalization from the perspective of Psychology students. Among 17 Psychology institutions in the state of Piauí, the two oldest in the private and public spheres were elected. Data collection was carried out with 501 students with active enrollment, from the 3rd to the 10th period of psychology, who answered a questionnaire about the role of the school psychologist in the face of medicalization. Data were processed and analyzed using the Iramuteq software. The results revealed that students from more advanced periods understand that the school psychologist must disseminate critical understanding in institutions, promote other forms of care and raise awareness of the different forms of production of the phenomenon of medicalization in educational contexts. However, some students still bring in their testimonies a reductionist look and a tendency to decontextualize the individual.
