The objective of this work is identified as motivational theories and to understand theories in the development of knowledge and practices of occupational therapy. This is a narrative review of the literature based on the descriptors "Occupational Therapy" AND "motivation" OR "Motivational theory". The selection of articles was based on the frequency of mentioning motivational theories for analysis and discussion of the results. Six motivating theories were identified, two of which were applied to the context of Occupational Therapy. More studies are needed to understand the factors related to motivation and the means to promote effective and satisfactory occupational envolvement
