Abstract

SANTOS, Gustavo Alvarenga Oliveira. Jurema and the staying-being of the brazilian woman: a kuschian analysis. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, pp. 1-15. ISSN 2175-2591.

It is demonstrated how the myth and rite known as Jurema constitute themselves as a symbol that reveal the existential condition of the Brazilian popular woman. In order to do so, the story of Jurema is told and the way in which it became a myth of Brazilian Umbanda. It is demonstrated how this myth has repercussions on an Umbandist theological view and, through a Kuschian analysis, how it reveals a Brazilian way of being. Finally, it concludes on the importance of the symbol in the understanding of the popular ontology and how it affects the work of the psi professional, especially those dealing with the reality of Brazilian women in subaltern conditions.

Keywords : Jurema; Umbanda; Kusch; Phenomenological Psychology.
