Abstract

PONTE, Amélia Belisa Moutinho da  and  ARAUJO, Lucivaldo da Silva. Vivências de mães no cuidado de crianças com transtorno do espectro autista. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.2, pp. 1-15. ISSN 2175-2591.

Faced with the challenges of caring for a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), mothers are often faced with a reality different from the idealized one in which they are reduced to the maternal condition. In view of this, we sought to identify how it is constituted and what are the meanings of mothering for these mothers. The research, approved by an ethics committee, obtained data through semi-structured interviews, analyzed according to Ricoeur's hermeneutics. The results showed the experience of discovering and adapting to the routine of caring for a neuroatypical child and the difficulties encountered in the exercise of multiple roles, including the bonds related to conjugality and the father's participation in caring for the child. Despite existences limited by motherhood, the protagonism and empowerment of women who claim the active participation of their partners and their support networks in the care of children with ASD stand out.
