GROLLI, Verônica; WAGNER, Marcia Fortes  e  DALBOSCO, Simone Nenê Portela. Depressive and Anxiety Symptoms in High School Adolescents. Rev. Psicol. IMED [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.1, pp. 87-103. ISSN 2175-5027.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18256/2175-5027.2017.v9i1.2123.

Adolescence is configured as an important stage of human development, marked by changes and doubts. However, from the point of view of mental health, it is a moment where various disorders may come up, so it is important to detect it properly. This is a quantitative, descriptive study, which aims to determine the prevalence of depressive and anxiety symptoms in graduating high school students in a Brazilian public school in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The participants were 70 adolescents, aged 16 to 19 years, who were evaluated by the application of Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). The final results pointed to a higher rate of minimal symptoms of depression and anxiety compared to mild, moderate and severe symptoms, in relation to the gender of participants. Regarding the study shift, the results showed that there is statistical significance for both BDI (p = 0.002) and BAI (p = 0.008) scores, demonstrating that students who study at night shift, have more depressive and anxiety symptoms than those who study in the day shift. It was concluded that depressive and anxiety symptoms were found in high school adolescents of this sample, although the indicated symptomatology was in the minimum intensity range.
