The life expectancy of the world population has increased considerably in recent decades, increasing interest in research related to the elderly population, especially those focused on cognitive decline. Recent studies seek to understand the effects of electronic games on the cognition throughout the life cycle and whether they can be used as cognitive training. Considering this scenario, the present study aimed to identify and discuss the studies that investigated the effect of the use of electronic games on the cognition of the elderly with a diagnosis of cognitive decline. The design used to prepare this study was the systematic review, following the steps proposed by the PRISMA model. The searches were performed in the virtual databases PubMed, BVS and Scopus, where twelve studies were selected after applying the established criteria. 17 different electronic games were identified as intervention tools. The main results found point to improvements in memory, attention, information processing and executive functions. However, not all the benefits found remained in the long term or were transferred to the daily lives of individuals.
