Abstract

GALENO, Luciene Souza; CHARIGLIONE, Isabelle Patriciá Freitas Soares; SALLORENZO, Lucia Henriques  and  SILVA, Henrique Salmazo da. The elderly in the Federal District media: losses and gains in aging. Rev. Psicol. IMED [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.2, pp. 22-35. ISSN 2175-5027.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18256/2175-5027.2018.v10i2.2843.

The media offers the social picture of how old age is approached, assuming roles that vary according to social interests, clashes and dilemmas. The objective of this study was to identify how the journalistic media of the Federal District (DF) represents old age and the losses and gains in aging. For that, we analyzed 59 stories about old age published by the Correio Braziliense newspaper between October 2017 and February 2018. The textual analysis was done through the categories and word cloud using the IRAMUTEQ software. Four classes of words were found: Study (34.1%), Television (24.4%), Per-cent (22.7%), Living (18.8%). Of these classes, the one that most represented the process of losses and gains in the aging was the class "Study". In the cloud of words, relations of addition and negation were verified in relation to the categories. Of these classes, the one that most represented the process of losses and gains in the aging was the class "Study". Together these data indicate that the representation of the old age in the Federal District is plural and was related to health, media, economy and living.

Keywords : Video-Audio Media; Aging; Social Perception.
