Abstract

SILVA, Michele Macedo Da; TURRA, Virgínia  and  CHARIGLIONE, Isabelle Patriciá Freitas Soares. Elderly, depression and retirement: A systematic review of literature. Rev. Psicol. IMED [online]. 2018, vol.10, n.2, pp. 119-136. ISSN 2175-5027.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18256/2175-5027.2018.v10i2.2858.

Retirement refers to a process of change that can be understood quite differently by those who retire. In this study, it was hypothesized that retirement refers to a gradual process of losses that, in aging, is directly related to the possibility of the onset of depression. The objective of this study was to verify which reflections and results are presented in national and international studies that discuss the process of aging, retirement and depression in the last decade. To do so, a systematic review of the literature was conducted with the keywords depressão / depression, idosos / seniors and aposentadoria / retirement, in the electronic databases, between 2009 to 2018. Were analyzed 13 articles that showed that retirement is hardly considered as a health risk factor in all stages of life and the causative agent of depression in the elderly. Thus, the need to problematize these findings is concluded, since the phenomenon of retirement needs to be thought about the different conditions that may be superimposed on the experience of the retired elderly.

Keywords : Retirement; Depression; Elderly; Systematic Review of Literature.
