CAVALCANTE, Lorena de Almeida  e  MARINHO-ARAUJO, Claisy Maria. The ethical and political dimension of research in school psychology. Rev. Psicol. IMED [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.1, pp. 103-119. ISSN 2175-5027.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18256/2175-5027.2019.v11i1.3018.

In the last three decades, Brazilian School Psychology has undergone re-significances regarding its ethical and political role. In contrast to a past in which the area presented theoretical and practical defenses that contributed to the maintenance of oppressive power and social inequalities, a path was taken towards the recognition of the pertinence of School Psychology to commit itself to social transformation. The present theoretical article aims to present reflections about how the scientific production in School Psychology can and should make compromises with changing social, historical and cultural conditions in order to lead emancipatory processes of human being. It was verified that research in School Psychology has been characterized by a commitment not only to the construction of knowledge about certain phenomena, but also to the proposition of intervening possibilities that potentiate, when necessary, a change in the questions investigated. As final considerations, it is pointed the indispensability of research in School Psychology become a political act, linked to theoretical assumptions, methodologies and intervention strategies that offer concrete social tools to leverage change in unjust, oppressive, alienating social realities as well as mediate empowerment and empowerment of professionals who work especially in educational contexts.
