This article deals with matters concerning autism, its diagnosis in the light of psychoanalysis, as well as the possibilities of treatment in institutional framework by a specialized team. It aims to differentiate the clinical conduct of an institution crossed by psychoanalysis from other models based on behavioral and cognitive approaches. The paper also addresses contemporary issues influencing public policies that favor particular service models. The article includes clinical cases that may contribute to illustrate the theoretical argument.
