Abstract

KOSOVSKI, Giselle Falbo. Lacan and Stoller's transgender. Trivium [online]. 2016, vol.8, n.2, pp. 133-142. ISSN 2176-4891.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18379/2176-4891.2016v2p.133.

This article proposes a second look at Lacan´s review about the transgender persons as delivered on his 18th Seminar (1971/2009), often seen as a note which indispensably brings transwomen into line with the phychoses. Our proposition sustains that at the time Lacan established such articulation between the transgender and the forclusion mechanism, he was not precisely referring to the transgender persons but to that which Stoller considers key to diagnosis of the typical transgender: mother-son blissful symbiosis. With this aim in mind should we first take Stoller´s theorizations a step further, then argue Lacan´s comment, and finally, raise the problems posed by that misunderstanding to Psychoanalysis´s role amid the ongoing debate concerning Gender and sexuality.

Keywords : PSYCHOANALYSIS; TRANSEXUALITY; LACAN; STOLLER.
