This paper aims to demonstrate through an analysis of the relations between the series-form used in Anton Webern's 3 songs on texts of Hildegard Jone op. 25 and Piano Variations op.27 the meaning of Paul Griffths' assertion about the Neo-classicism present in the style of the composer, and consequently his adherence to the tradition. Furthermore the analysis of the relations and it's articulation with the structural mainframe of the works we shall investigate in Webern's own words what are the elements or techniques that may guide our analysis in order to elucidate the traditional features that may be present in his late style, usually known for its vanguardist attributes. We'll conclude that the relations, pregnant of class 5 intervals, prevail on most of the work, particularly on the first two movements, settling an analogy, a new interpretation of the tonal practices, by themselves the most representative icon of the occidental music tradition.
