Abstract

VARGAS, Terezinha da Cunha  and  POLLO, Vera. "Iphigenia at Aulis": war, bridal and death (Psychoanalytical contributions to a lecture of a tragedy). Trivium [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.2, pp. 232-245. ISSN 2176-4891.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18379/2176-4891.2017v2p.232.

The tragedy "Iphigenia at Aulis" has given rise to many issues still far from being clarified today. Although it is presented in our theaters and published in books in our days, the cultural distance between us and this play could be measured in light-years. So, how does it still interest us and stimulate our thoughts? To understand these and other questions, we've decided to approach this tragedy from psychoanalytical perspective, basing ourselves specially on Freud's studies about women, war and death. In parallel, we've tried to establish a dialogue between psychoanalysis and classical literature. Though we are still far away from exhausting the topic, we believe we have come closer to some innovating interpretations.

Keywords : IPHIGENIA; WOMEN; WAR; BRIDAL; DEATH.
