Abstract

In this manuscript we aimed to reflect about the look in the matter of psychoanalysis and art. To do so, we started by the questions raised facing of Amedeo Modigliani's art work, an Italian painter who portrayed holes instead of eyes, instigating unsettling questions about the look. Doing so, the artist's portraits invite us to reflect about images build to realize how misplaced the unconsciousness is. We further discuss the unheimlich effect by emphasizing how the holes in the eyes in Modigliani's paintings astonish us with the strangeness about the look.
