Abstract

MEDEIROS, Clarice  and  FORTES, Isabel. The pain of the mourning: psychoanalytic perspectives. Trivium [online]. 2019, vol.11, n.2, pp. 222-234. ISSN 2176-4891.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18379/2176-4891.2019v2p.222.

In this paper, we examine the mourning and specifically its relation to pain. Mourning is an affective reaction to the loss of the beloved object and its work requires the realization that it no longer exists, requiring that all libido be removed from the bonds with the object. The counterpart of this is the psychic attempt to prolong the existence of the lost object by means of its hyper-investment. We think of the painful character of the mourning as arising from this double path: the rupture of associations concerning the lost object, the opposite effect of which is the high investment in the representation of the object.

Keywords : MOURNING; PAIN; OBJECT; PSYCHOANALYSIS.
