Abstract

COELHO, Rosana de Souza. Psychoanalysis and democracy: from the political demand of the other to the desire of the subject. Trivium [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.spe, pp. 88-95. ISSN 2176-4891.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18379/2176-4891.2021vNSPEAp.88.

The article starts from the concept of democracy in the philosophy of Jacques Rancière and points out points of approach of this concept with the notion of politics in psychoanalysis. It addresses the psychoanalytic conceptions of power, ethics and subject, emphasizing its importance in the understanding of a concept of democracy that does not negate politics as a field of encounter between singularities. It illuminates the disruptive face of the death drive, to think of it as form of resistance to dictatorial power. At the end illustrates the theoretical developments with some scenes from the Uruguayan film A night of twelve years, directed by Álvaro Brechner.

Keywords : POLITICS; DEMOCRACY; SUBJECT; DEATH DRIVE; RESISTANCE.
