Abstract

MENEZES, José Euclimar Xavier de  and  SANTOS, Denise Neves dos. Tensions between the psychiatric diagnosis and the identity constructions. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2012, vol.4, n.2, pp. 152-160. ISSN 2177-093X.

In a logical-historical perspective we analyze in this paper the expert literature elements about the representations of identity in mental health. We aim to understand the way in which these perceptions occur to individuals with mental disorders, mainly as an impact on their social relationships, under the sign of this diagnosis. To achieve these goals we use as a research tool a literature review based on authors who constitute the state of the art of this subject as Michel Foucault, Erving Goffman, Rudolph Coutinho, Antonio Ciampa, among others. From this debate developed on the construction of madness through the diagnosis, associated to the definition of identity, results a critical reasoning about the human condition of the subjects with psychological suffering, above all on their citizenship in a society that condemns them to the patient's mental status, excluding them from the full enjoyment of social life.

Keywords : Diagnosis; Identity; Madness; Stigma.
