Abstract

GONCALVES, Endy-Ara Gouvea  and  CARMO, João dos Santos. Diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease type in brazilian population: a bibliographical survey. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2012, vol.4, n.2, pp. 170-176. ISSN 2177-093X.

In Brazil the Alzheimer's Disease (AD) accounts 50% to 60% of all cases of dementia in the elderly. This study intends to raise and analyze information on the diagnosis of AD in the literature with the descriptors: Senile Dementia, Diagnosis, Alzheimer's disease, and their English equivalents in electronic databases Scielo, CAPES Journals, Web of Science, Pepsic and PsychInfo. We sought to identify gaps in knowledge about the diagnosis of AD as well as indicate possible avenues in the attempt to understand the AD in our population. It was found that there are few studies that examine the AD in the Brazilian population. There was also a lack of conceptual blending of research and standardization of procedures and tools used by specialists in gerontology.

Keywords : Senile dementia; Diagnosis; Alzheimer's disease; Elderly; Neuropsychology.
