The genogram is used by professionals as an aid for Family Health Strategy (FHS), allowing a broad view of standards and family relations involved in the health-disease process. The aim of this work was to understand genogram's contributions for Primary Health Care in the mental health evaluation. For this exploratory study, eleven professionals from FHS in a midsize city of Santa Catarina were interviewed. Data were obtained by semi-structured interviews and analysed qualitatively in a content analysis technique. Four categories related to contributions, functions, knowledge and the use of genograms in mental health emerged from the interviews. The results suggest genogram contributions in mental health evaluation. We have noticed that the use and knowledge of genogram is focused only in some professionals.
