This article intents to reflect on the limits and scopes of work of a psychologist in a hospital general public. Based on authors like Guirado, Bleger, Lapassade and Guilhon Albuquerque, we have assumed that the practice of a professional institution can be thought in the light of its own dynamic, established and built within it. The professional psychologist in a hospital may be asked to take the place of responsibility for all kinds of "not-knowing" and institutional practices, through the bureaucratic organization of the relations, tend to perpetuate the established, making it difficult the work of the same. We emphasize that the scope of practice of psychologists in the hospital are related their ability to observe carefully the institutional dynamics, building an assessment of his work in this reality.
