Abstract

OSTROVSKY, Ana Elisa; MARIN, Julia  and  ALFONSO, Viviana. Addressing female homosexuality at the founding stages of the institutionalization of argentinian psychoanalisis (1942-1955). Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2017, vol.9, n.2, pp. 21-34. ISSN 2177-093X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v9i2.500.

This paper aims to approach, from a historical perspective, the presence of evaluation biases on the female homosexuality in our discipline. We will focus mainly on developments of Psychoanalysis in Argentina from its institutionalization in 1942 until 1955. Firstly we will give the notion of compulsory heterosexuality indicated by the feminist theorist Adrienne Rich. Within this framework, secondly we will refer to studies about female homosexuality analyzing founding texts of Freud and his disciples. Then we will make some statements regarding history of Psychoanalysis in Argentina and we will discuss examples of female homosexuality approaches in the years of foundation and consolidation of institutionalized Psychoanalysis (1942-1955). Finally we will reflect on how the history of the discipline allows us to critically review the values that psychologists often bring into play in regular practices and therefore, the important consequences that may derive from it.

Keywords : history of psychoanalysis; Argentina; female homosexuality; values.
