Abstract

GOULARTE, Paola Nunes; GABARRA, Leticia Macedo  and  MORE, Carmen Leontina Ojeda Ocampo. The visit in an adult Intensive Care Unit: perspective of the multiprofessional team. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.1, pp. 157-170. ISSN 2177-093X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v12i1.734.

Changes in the care paradigm in the Intensive Care Units (UTI) have stimulated the expansion of visiting times and the open UTI policy in some institutions. This study aimed at the perception of health professionals about an extension/flexibilization of the UTI visit and to analyze the basic criteria used in the decision making about their duration. The research, carried out in a university hospital in the south of Brazil, characterized by a multi-method approach, developed in two stages: closed questionnaire (N = 72) and semi-structured interview with presentation of two clinical cases (N = 7). The data analysis showed that the professionals perceive a flexibilization of the visit as well-being for patients and their families, but presented ambivalence regarding repercussions in the work routine. It is recommended to promote spaces for dialogue and training so that the team is able to adopt a less restrictive visit policy.

Keywords : Intensive Care Unit; humanization assistance; hospital psychology.
