Resumen

CARDOZO, Tainá Borges  y  MONTEIRO, Renata Alves de Paula. From traditional psychiatry to psychiatric reform: the mental health clinic as a treatment device. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.2, pp. 31-44. ISSN 2177-093X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v0i0.768.

The mental health clinic is an old health service in the field of psychiatric care that was created when the treatment of patients was led by the asylum model. Over time, other ways of understanding the care of patients in psychic suffering have emerged. Since then, new services in this field were established, with purposes and work directions that differ from the traditional mental health clinics. The present article aims to discuss the limitations and possibilities of the mental health clinics nowadays, as a strategic service of the Psychiatric Reform, highlighting the work done in the Mental Health Clinic of Jurujuba, located in Niterói. This paper offers a literature review, as well as observations made during an internship for the Psychology course of the Fluminense Federal University. We conclude that the mental health clinics structured with anti-asylum guidelines are essential to offer a service of better quality.
