OLIVEIRA, Daniel Vicentini de et al. Self-esteem and exercise dependence in pratices strength exercise. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.4, pp. 171-182. ISSN 2177-093X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v13i4.1201.

INTRODUCTION: This cross-sectonal study aimed to analyze self-esteem and exercise dependence (ED) in 80 strength exercise practitioners METHODS: A questionnaire with sociodemographic questions related to strength exercise practce, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and the EDS-R were used. Data were analyzed by "U" Mann-Whitney's, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Kruskal-Wallis and Spearman correlaton tests (p <0.05). RESULTS: Practitioners perceive themselves with a high self-esteem score (Md = 33.5). Practitioners for more than three years and more than three times a week had higher scores in the dimensions and total ED score (p<0.05). A significant and negative correlaton of age was found with the dimension of avoiding withdrawal symptoms (r= -0.22). CONCLUSION: increase in practce time and weekly training frequency seems to lead to an increase in the ED degree of the bodybuilder. However, it is noteworthy that older age is related to lesser withdrawal symptoms.
