MOREIRA, Jansen Souza; LEAL, Ludwig Félix Machado  e  BARBOSA, Silvânia da Cruz. Mental health in road cargo transportation: a look at the truck driver. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2022, vol.14, n.1, pp.133-145. ISSN 2177-093X.  https://doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v14i1.1725.

Essentials in Brazilian logistics, truck drivers face numerous challenges in their work routine, exposed to social and work precariousness. This research aimed to analyze the perception of work experiences and their repercussions on mental health, in 120 truck drivers. Instruments: General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12); Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS); and Sociodemographic Questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, Spearman correlation, chi-square, and simple linear regression were performed on the GNU/PSPP (1.0.1). Scores close to the midpoint of the scale, in the GHQ-12, suggested moderate mental weariness, with higher income related to greater Reduction in Self-Efficacy, and ESS estimated excessive daytime sleepiness for 43.3% of the sample. Inferential analyzes point to negative relationships between sleep quality and income and working hours. Such findings help to plan interventions in promoting the health of truck drivers, and highlight labor aspects of precariousness. Topics such as social and organizational support can be addressed in subsequent research.

Palavras-chave : mental health at work; occupational health; truck drivers.
