Abstract

Reinstatement of psychology as a subject in the high school curriculum: a discussion rose by psychology peculiarities and by the challenges proposed by the current educational context. Psicol. Ensino & Form. [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.1, pp. 53-66. ISSN 2177-2061.

This article has the objective to discuss the reinstatement of Psychology as a subject taught in high school by considering some specific difficulties concerning the teaching of Psychology and the challenges proposed by the educational context. We point out the following as specific difficulties: the withdrawal of Psychology out of high school (secondary) curriculum, the end of Psychology Teaching Practice in Universities, the absence of Psychology as a discipline in the high school curriculum parameters and the lack of clarity regarding the role of the Psychology teacher in high school. In order to contextualize high school in the educational scenario, a discussion is raised to approach: the objectives of the high school level in accordance with the current legislation, the 1990s educational reform, the education in general and the training for work. A literature review is presented concerning teaching Psychology in both the Teaching Practice Degree in universities and high school. It also presents a few thoughts about the challenges to reintegrate Psychology to high school.
