Abstract

NARVAZ, Martha G.. Feminine masochism and domestic violence: reflexions for clinic and the educational psychology. Psicol. Ensino & Form. [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.2, pp. 47-59. ISSN 2177-2061.

This paper intends to question present discourses about female masochism in relation to domestic violence against women. We have found discourses which lay the blame on the victims, who have been seen as masochists. In that sense, we would like to highlight the role of Freudian Psychoanalysis as a normative discourse about the feminine that, based on some mistakes, seem to have had a hand in rendering the masochistic scene as being specifically feminine. It is important to historicize these discourses, identify their ethical and political effects on gender relations and question their naturalizations; it is what we would like to approach in this paper.

Keywords : masochism; women; feminine; violence; Psychoanalysis.
