Abstract

KOHATSU, Lineu Norio. Teaching psychology in higher secondary education: the experiences of teachers in the São Paulo state education system. Psicol. Ensino & Form. [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.2, pp. 34-64. ISSN 2177-2061.

The article presents the results of a survey conducted among psychology teachers in higher secondary education schools run by the São Paulo state government. The study began in 2008 with the aim of gathering data on teachers and their practices. The survey proposal was made in the light of: the withdrawal of psychology as a higher secondary study discipline; the scarcity of information on the practices of psychology teachers in basic education; the inexpressive academic production on the subject, and the need for data to complement and support psychology teaching degree courses. Data gathering was done through semi-structured interviews with 13 psychology teachers. Common aspects of their teaching practice were identified as well as aspects peculiar to each one, and information on government-run schools was also registered. Finally the article puts forward a discussion of psychology's contribution to the formation of young people.
