Abstract

ROCHA, Márcia Santos da. One perspective to understand teaching in brazilian high school: the social cognitive theory. Psicol. Ensino & Form. [online]. 2014, vol.5, n.2, pp. 122-136. ISSN 2177-2061.

This paper presents the special issue that is entirely dedicated to the investigation of the experiences of teachers in high schools. This group of studies falls mostly under the perspective of Social Cognitive Theory, which is used to analyze several aspects of teaching in high school. Some aspects include the reasons for low interest in teaching at this level, the teachers' and directors' efficacy beliefs, and its origins. Other aspects include the relationships between satisfaction at work, and the health of teachers. The paper also explores the effects of the beliefs when integrating teachers with information and communication technologies. The presented studies demonstrate that knowing teachers' beliefs as a potential cognitive mediator is a fundamental element of Educational Psychology that is necessary to promote and facilitate teacher education.
