Abstract

This paper focuses issues that have been relatively neglectful or scarcely emphasized in the available literature on the interface between social skills and behavior analysis: (a) the contribution of the functional perspective from behavior analysis in the social skills definition and in the criteria of social competence; (b) the understanding of social skills and social competence as a result from the ontogenetic, phylogenetics and cultural selection of social behavior patterns; and (c) the implications and the potential contribution of the social skills programs for planning cultural practices committed to the survival and life quality in the complex contemporary society
