LEONARDI, Jan Luiz; ANDERY, Maria Amalia Pie Abib  e  ROSSGER, Nicolas Carsten. The study of insight by behavior analysis. Perspectivas [online]. 2011, vol.2, n.2, pp. 166-178. ISSN 2177-3548.

"Insight" has been interpreted in behavior analysis as the sudden resolution of a problem when two or more different repertoires, previously learned separately, interconnect in a new situation, producing original sequences of behavior. This paper presents the main researches in the area, demonstrating the variables that appear to contribute to the production of the phenomenon, such as the size of the experimental chamber, the order and amount of training of the prerequisite repertoires and the salience of the stimuli involved. In addition, this article points out some limits on the relevance of the conducted studies, mainly from the use of objects without reinforcing function in the configuration of the problem situations. Finally, this paper discusses some difficulties imposed by the behavioral interpretation of the phenomenon. The definition of insight as spontaneous interconnection of repertoires maintains the internalistic aspect of the original conception of the phenomenon and depends on the inference of behavioral processes conceptualized somewhat vaguely that have not been proven empirically, and it is a curious phenomenon from the perspective of the causal model of selection by consequences, as it is an all-or-nothing process in which the measure of interest is the occurrence of a single behavior. The conclusion is that a definition of insight is still very incipient in behavior analysis.
