MALAVAZZI, Dante Marino et al. Applied behavior analysis: Interface between science and practice?. Perspectivas [online]. 2011, vol.2, n.2, pp. 218-230. ISSN 2177-3548.

The history of behavior analysis reveals an initial movement from science to practice. First, it was associated to basic research. Gradually, it encompassed the application of behavioral principles to quotidian problems. In order to clarify the interface between science and practice in behavioral analysis, this research reviewed the studies about functional analysis published in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis (JABA) between 2004 and 2010, based on the criteria proposed by Baer, Wolf, and Risley (1968, 1987): (a) applied, (b) behavioral, (c) analytic, (d) technological, (e) conceptual, (f) effective and (g) generalizable. Sixty four articles were examined. The reviewed studies could be categorized as analytic and conceptual but frequently neglected the behavioral, technological and generalizable criteria. Idealized as a bridge between research and assistance, the applied behavioral analysis has partly reached its goal.
