Abstract

HAYDU, Verônica Bender  and  ZANLUQUI, Luzia Venâncio. Board game for teaching monetary skills: degree of learning of different age groups. Perspectivas [online]. 2013, vol.4, n.2, pp. 122-135. ISSN 2177-3548.

The study aimed to compare the performance of elementary school students whit 6, 7 and 8 years of age in tasks involving monetary skills, to verify which ones had the higher degree of learning, after participating in a board game. The game DimDim Negotiating and Playing! and printed tests were used. The procedure consisted of a pre-test, three matches of the game, a probe, three more matches of the game and a post-test. It was found that, except of one 6 years old participant, all others showed an increase in the percentage of correct responses after six matches of the game. Seven and 8 years old participants required minor percentages of assistance from the experimenter than those with 6 years of age. The 6 years old participants presented a more accentuated reduction of moderate level of assistance and increased independent performance as they played. These results indicate that 6 years old participants showed the highest level of learning after the game matches compared to the 7 and 8 years old participants. This is probably due to the fact that the initial performance of the 6 years old participants was lower than the other participants.
