Abstract

PERKOSKI, Izadora Ribeiro  and  SOUZA, Silvia Regina de. O Espião: A behavior-analytic perspective on the design of educational board games. Perspectivas [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.2, pp. 74-88. ISSN 2177-3548.  http://dx.doi.org/10.18761/pac.2015.020.

Despite the growing use of games in education, there is a gap in theoretical and empirical basis for its development and evaluation. One possibility to understand the use of games as a teaching tool is to frame their study and development in a coherent learning theory. This article aims to systematize the development of educational games by behavior analysts through the presentation of a board game, built from a behavior-analytic view and using the iterative process of design, aming to teach children behaviors related to bullying prevention. The most relevant features of educational games are presented. Then the principles of learning from a behavior analytic perspective, the principles of teaching programming and its possible applications in the development of educational games are discussed. Finally, the game "O Espião" is described in its features, its goals and development process by the iterative process of game design. Due to the social relevance of creating technologies with a behavior-analytic approach, it is expected that this study will contribute to the presentation of iterative design methodology as a coherent option for the behavior analyst to work developing educational games.
