Since the beginning of the world, children have been victims of all kinds of exploitation, including mostly ones of sexual nature. Nevertheless its disclosure has had little echo, covered up by the silence with which the society, in general and the specialists in particular have treated the subject. According to Freud (1913), the rejection to the theme incest is a result of the aversion human beings feel to their primary incestual desires which are, nowadays, controlled by repression. Although different theoretical orientations might be widened in order to study the intrafamiliar sexual abuse in childhood, some models need to incorporate a developmental perspective. In this paper, we shall be seeing, in synthesis, some moments of the individual development and the consequences of incest. Sexual abuse in childhood must be seen as a matter of child’s rights as well as a health and a mental health problem. The first attitude then should be to brake the silence barrier, in order to do so people must become aware of the existence of this phenomenon.
