Resumen

KARAM, Maria Lucia. Psicologia e sistema prisional. Rev. Epos [online]. 2011, vol.2, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 2178-700X.

The historical relationship between the psychological sciences and the criminal justice system has been characterized by a tragic alliance, which has strengthened the damage, the pain and the illusions caused by the harmful ideas of punishment; deprivation of liberty; stigma and exclusion as a supposed way of controlling negative or undesirable behaviors labeled as "crimes." The compliance with the ethics that might rule the professional behavior of psychologists requires the end of this tragic alliance. The respect and promotion of dignity, equality and safety of human beings also require the restraint of the power of punishment, leading to the enforcement of civil rights; the rediscovery of the desire for freedom; the deepening of democratic ideals; and the consequent abolition of the criminal justice system.

Palabras clave : psychology; criminal justice system; prisons; democracy; freedom.
