Since the late 70's it has been observed in the United States a progressive colonization of the strategies for crime prevention, enforcement and treatment of its consequences by the predominant trend of managerialism, which operates the criminal justice system according to the actuarial logic in order to preemptively neutralize individuals profiled as a chronic recidivists. To understand and critique this paradigmatic phenomenon, which abandons the research of the causes of crime to focus on practical crime control, is essential before its inevitable expansion to countries under its sphere of influence and this task seems particularly important in Brazil, which still lacks a critical mass of theory on the topic.
