Having principle comparative studies, this paper analyzes the journalism on violent crime in Rio de Janeiro in two vehicles, "The Globe" and the "Observatory of Slums". The goal is to draw analogies between these media products, which have different audiences and different purposes. Will be considered consolidated some categories in comparative studies done internationally, as the issue of objectivity, professionalism and research, beyond words and silences. The materials analyzed were published in June 2013 about episodes involving deaths and clashes in Complexo da Maré, a set of slums located in the North River area. The intention is to verify the speech places of journalists of both vehicles. We found that, in both cases, there is a state of failure discourse in the analyzed territory, but the charge for this state is made differently.
