The search occurred in March 2012 with the descriptor controlled "Family Health Program" and the descriptor not controlled "Community Health Agent". This process resulted in 172 articles, but only 19 were selected, and their systematic information on pre-established instrument. It was found that most studies is performed by nurses, published in the years 2010 and 2011 in periodicals whose focus is public health. The articles revealed the importance of Community Health Workers in Family Health Strategy. However, there was a variety of activities they carried out, which is not always part of their actual functions. Thus, it is necessary to define the performance of this professional to optimize teamwork and offer health care to people living in the area of operation of the Family Health Strategy.
