Abstract

ARDILA, Rubén. A statement of ethical principles in psychology for all mankind. Eureka [online]. 2011, vol.8, n.1, pp. 14-18. ISSN 2220-9026.

During several centuries humanity has searched for universal ethical principles, that could be applied to all persons and to all cultures beyond the limitations of here and now. Ethical concerns have been universal and have referred to the foundation of desirable behavior, in which sciences and in particular psychology have an important place. Ethical Codes for Psychologists have been proposed in the main fields of psychology. The new Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles for Psychologists, which has been reached after several years of reflection along the nations, is centered in the following principles: (1) respect for the dignity of persons and peoples, (2) competent care for the well-being of persons and people, (3) integrity, (4) professional and scientific responsabilities to society. This is a relevant accomplishment and presents a frame of reference for working in psychology. Philosophers and thinkers interested in ethics could also benefit from this Universal Declaration of Ethical Principles.
