Abstract

GASPODINII, Icaro Bonamigo  and  FALCKEI, Denise. Brazilian psychological studies on prejudice against sexual and gender diversity. Est. Inter. Psicol. [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.2, pp. 59-79. ISSN 2236-6407.

Abstract In this systematic literature review, we investigated how Brazilian researchers in Psychology studied prejudice against sexual and gender diversity, from January 2006 to July 2016. Twenty-three articles were selected from 16 databases, on three portals (Portal de Periódicos da CAPES, EBSCOHost, and Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde). Most studies investigated prejudice in young samples composed by school/university students and women, which are populations associated with low expression of prejudice. Moreover, they prioritize investigating prejudice expressed against homosexuality and choose the term “sex” to describe participants’ gender in methodological description. We suggest that Brazilian psychological investigations on prejudice against sexual and gender diversity move their focus beyond homosexuality to include other sexual orientations and non-cisgender identities or expressions.

Keywords : prejudice; sexism; homophobia; sexual discrimination.
