Internalized racial oppression refers to a process of internalization of negative racial stereotypes by black people, occurring as a self-attribution of a lower position in a supposed racial hierarchy. The aim of the present study was to translate the individualized Internalized Racial Oppression Scale for Black (IROS) into Brazilian Portuguese, developed in the United States, which assesses internalized racial oppression. It is also intended to identify the relevance of the theme in the Brazilian context. The study took place in two stages, in which the first was the translation itself, and the second, discussion with a focus group. The items were evaluated as being easy to understand, requiring few changes and resulting in a version translated into Brazilian Portuguese. From the discussion with the focus group, it was possible to identify the relevance of the theme to the Brazilian context. However, there are specificities to be considered in future studies for the adaptation and validation of the scale.
