SOUZA, Bruna de  and  BORGES, Roselania Francisconi. An exploratory study about brazilian websites' information regarding fibromyalgia. Est. Inter. Psicol. [online]. 2021, vol.12, n.1, pp. 52-75. ISSN 2236-6407.  http://dx.doi.org/10.5433/2236-6407.2021v12n1p52.

Fibromyalgia is a syndrome of unknown etiology, associated with immense pain. In 2017 there was a significant increase in Brazilian web searches with the term fibromyalgia. The goal of this exploratory research was to analyze the information available on Brazilian websites concerning the syndrome. Data gathering utilized the term fibromyalgia on Google. Search filters consisted of a date range (20102017) and a language (Portuguese). The information received systematization and qualitative analysis, regarding deviation and proximity to scientific literature. The results indicated: a variability of web information about the syndrome, showcasing the scientific production of the field; the occurrence of dissonance and convergence concerning definition, symptoms, diagnosis criteria, etiology and treatment; finally, that web information about fibromyalgia is predominately under the medical domain, with a restricted inclusion of psychological content.
