Abstract

This is study aimed to evaluate the relationship between depression symptoms, nutritional risk, and functional capacity, with social, economic, demographic and health characteristics in in long-lived elderly. It is a cross-sectional survey carried out in four municipalities in the state of SNo Paulo. The relationships among the studied variables were investigated through the technique of Multiple Correspondence Analysis. A total of 103 elderly were evaluated, most of whom were female, aged between 80 and 90 years and up to four years of schooling. The results evidence the correspondence between depression symptoms, nutritional risk, functional impairment, low schooling, and inadequate health self-assessment. Therefore, there is need a broad and interdisciplinary approach and the development of public policies directed at the very elderly are necessary, to reduce the risk of depression, malnutrition and improve the functioning of the long-lived elderly, that have a positive impact on their quality of life.
