Abstract

CASER, Livia Pignaton; LOUZADA, Ana Paula Figueiredo  and  SILVA, Maria Izabel Costa da. Silences on Probation: encounters within the arts of governing. Rev. Polis Psique [online]. 2015, vol.5, n.3, pp. 6-25. ISSN 2238-152X.

This article problematizes silences that sometimes arise during probation rehabilitation compliance hearings between technicians of the Centro de Referência Especializada da Assistência Social [social assistance centre] in Vitória in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, and adolescents and their families. We seek to locate probation within the crossroads of Brazilian historical practices related to childhood and adolescence in terms of a struggle for the recognition of subjects having rights, an effort hampered by protection, criminalization and prosecution. We invoke Foucault’s concept of governmentality to analyze the relation between the art of governing a population as a game between directing the conduct of others and acting on the actions of others. In addition, we analyze the relation of silence and the production of information by technicians while following their charges’ compliance with rehabilitation during probation.

Keywords : Social-Educational Measure; Probation; Governmentality.
