VIANA, Iclicia  y  MAHEIRIE, Kátia. Reinventing Identities: The Collective Strengthening of Indigenous Students within a University Environment. Rev. Polis Psique [online]. 2017, vol.7, n.3, pp. 224-249. ISSN 2238-152X.

The indigenous presence in academic environments has grown in recent years, particularly because of affirmative action policies. Entry into this universe - historically white and elitist - has produced fissures in the stereotypical gaze cast on indigenous peoples and, at the same time, has made visible the prejudices and racisms of our society. Within this scenario, higher education has become increasingly looked upon as an instrument of struggle necessary for the strengthening of indigenous movements. This text discusses general aspects of the indigenous presence in Brazilian universities: it deals with the power within the reinvention of identity and the strengthening of collectives, the staking of the university as a new liminal territory and of the struggle that affects and is affected by indigenous peoples.

Palabras clave : Indigenous Peoples; Affirmative Action Policies; Identity; Pychology; Indigenous Peoples.
