Abstract

BORGES, Karenn Cynthia Santos Silva et al. Care in a Psycho-social Care Centre in a Health Care Region in Maranhão, Brazil. Rev. Polis Psique [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.1, pp. 92-111. ISSN 2238-152X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22456/2238-152X.80420.

As a result of the Psychiatric Reform, Psychosocial Care Centres (CAPS) assumed the tasks of alternative services and organising functions of the mental health network. The aim of this paper is to understand mental health care and its articulations with the health care network from the point of view of the CAPS professionals. This is a qualitative research carried out with CAPS professionals of a health care region in the Brazilian Northeast. A focus group was conducted and a structured questionnaire was used. Through Thematic Content Analysis, statements were grouped into three categories: the gap between recommended and actual practice; in-network articulation; the end-user as subject and as mental patient. We come to the conclusion that the presence of CAPS, per se, does not guarantee a new model of care. Municipal management support is needed for the consolidation of network care, care administration regulation and efficient clinical-institutional supervision.
