Abstract

SILVA, Ana Cecília et al. Youths, gender and sexuality: the political action of the social movements. Rev. Polis Psique [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.2, pp. 93-117. ISSN 2238-152X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22456/2238-152X.75685.

The present work is result of an investigation that aimed to analyse and understand the perspective of young people from Maceió about the participative dynamics of feminist and LGBT social movements nowadays. Therefore, two focus groups were held with participants aged 18 to 29 years old, who received the request to participate through Facebook. The groups discussed issues related to political participation and the relation with gender and sexual diversity dimensions. We conclude that those who participate in the research have knowledge about the internal dynamics of the social movements, which seem to them each day more challenging. In general, their conceptions about these social movements and the politics itself passes through personal experiences of affirmation and confrontation. Such notions are linked to the collective rather than to fragmentation and individualism, increasingly demanding the deconstruction of naturalized and essentialized discourses about sexuality and gender.

Keywords : youth; gender; sexuality; political activity.
