Abstract

BARBOSA, Maicon. To the capture of moments: policies if visibility in contemporary images. Rev. Polis Psique [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.1, pp. 147-166. ISSN 2238-152X.

This article aims to think about some policies of visibility in the present, that produce practices of incessant capture of images by portable devices, both in travel experiences and in daily life. For this, the cult of novelty, constituted in the modernity, and returning in many ways to the present, is problematized. Inspired by a critical thinking of the images, present in the work of Walter Benjamin, and attentive to the relations between what's seen and what's said in a determined historical moment, this work analyzes articulations between some policies of contemporary visibility and certain regimes of enunciation, such as the speeches of exaltation of the novelty of imaging artifacts. Finally, the article proposes to think how some recent essay films produced by the filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard question these policies of visibility marked by the imperative of continuous capture and exhibition of images.
