Abstract

COSTA, Jobson Vital; LEITE, Jáder Ferreira  and  DANTAS, Candida Maria Bezerra. Elderly people and sense of rural in Rio Grande Do Norte. Rev. Polis Psique [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.1, pp. 164-186. ISSN 2238-152X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.22456/2238-152X.85438.

The study sought to know the senses of rural and aging produced by elderly people of a rural community of Rio Grande do Norte. Starting from the social constructivist perspective, it used semi-structured interviews with 13 people from the community, between 60 and 85 years old. The senses for rural areas have been linked to agriculture, food, water, work, health, site, countryside, mato, interior, area, everything in life, unassisted, tranquility, configuring a plurality of discursive repertoires in the elaboration of such senses. Already the senses of aging were related to old age, work less, live a lot, experience, tranquility. These meanings negotiate varied positions depending on the ways of insertion of the elderly people in relation to the land and with experiences lived in the city. It is concluded that the production of senses present specificities from life trajectories in a rural environment marked by adversities, but of connection with the territory through work, family and community relations.

Keywords : rural; old age; aging; social constructionism; production of senses.
